Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Golf and Country Club (SGCC) has formed a junior golf team comprising eight boys and two girls.
The boys led by captain Rafiq Anugerah are Evan Chee, Ryan Lam, Brandon Wong, Nakamura Shunsuke, Jayden Tiu, Ethan Chee, while the girls are captain Jamie Tan and Shannon Sim.
Club captain Ng Loong Fah said their inclusion as pioneers under the club’s Junior Golf Development Programme (JGDP) is a testament of their hard work, commitment and good results achieved in recent tournaments.
“These junior golfers have either won or achieved top positions in recent tournaments such as the 19th SGCC Junior Open, SGA Junior Tour Legs held recently at Sandakan, Tawau and Keningau as well as in our club’s Junior monthly medals.
“Some have also travelled to compete locally and abroad in countries such as Thailand, China, Taiwan with positive results,” he said.
Meanwhile, programme chairman Bill Chee added that the junior golfers aged 11-18 have shown overall good positive character, discipline and attitude.
He hopes as ambassadors of SGCC, they will cultivate a strong sense of belonging leading to a clear objective to excel in the game and become future champions under the club’s umbrella.
Ng also revealed that the team members will train intensively for the upcoming 20th SGCC Junior Open cum SGA Junior Tour 4th Leg scheduled to be held on August 29-30.
“They will have to be very competitive as we are expecting up to 100 junior golfers including entries from Sarawak, Brunei and West Malaysia to compete in this joint tournament.”
He also called on other junior golfers interested in joining to register early as there are limited entries in certain categories.
There will be prizes for the top five winners in each category, Hole In One Transview vouchers worth RM5,000 and a RM1,000 Transview vouchers for nearest to the pin as well as some lucky draws.
