Kota Kinabalu: The relevant authorities have been urged to address the traffic congestion along the roads in the Tanjung Aru beach area.
Making the call, Tanjung Aru Assemblyman Datuk Junz Wong claimed these congestions are affecting the tourism activities in the area.
“The recent opening of vendors around Prince Philip Park was a positive indication of increasing business activities among Tanjung Aru residents,” he said in a statement, Monday.
“Nevertheless, the roads are congested from the roundabout to the resort.
“Most visitors to the beach have to park their vehicles on the roadside, causing congestion.
“Given that the width of the roads only allows for two-way lanes, resulting in narrower lanes. Therefore, traffic becomes very congested.”
Recently, he said, 500 rooms in the nearby resort have been fully booked by tourists.
“However, the route to the resort is not smooth and can cause traffic jams extending to Sembulan.
“It took hours just to reach the resort and hours to leave from there.
“This must be addressed promptly by the relevant authorities as it will adversely affect tourism activities and the domestic economy,” he said.
