Kota Kinabalu: Sabahan Muslim couples can now marry outside the State following amendments to the Islamic Family Law Enactment 2004 by the State Legislative Assembly, here, on Wednesday.
Deputy Speaker Datuk Al-Hambra Tun Juhar granted the passing of the amendment bill after majority of the August House members agreed to the amended law which is now cited as the Islamic Family Law (Amendment) Enactment 2023.
State Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Datuk Dr. Arifin Arif, who is also the State Exco of Islamic Affairs, tabled the bill.
“The bill also provides more practical provisions for any Sabah Muslim residents who marriy abroad to follow the laws provided by the country,” he said.
