PETALING JAYA:  A man who drove all the way from Kuala Lumpur to Penang today just to cast his vote in the state elections was shocked and disappointed after being informed that “he had already voted”.

The 46-year-old man arrived at Sekolah Kebangsaan Jelutong at about 11.30am to cast his ballot in the Batu Lanchang seat, only to be told that someone had already voted in his name, Sin Chew Daily reported.

According to the Pakatan Harapan candidate for the seat, Ong Ah Teong, Election Commission (EC) officials found that the man’s name had been removed from the voter registration system, which meant someone might have stolen his identity and voted with a fake MyKad earlier.

“I have urged the man to lodge a police report. He told me he felt disappointed and angry,” the DAP man was quoted as saying.

Ong claimed he was later informed that a 31-year-old woman also suffered the same fate when she went to vote at the same polling station at about 2pm.

Meanwhile, a woman from Kedah lodged a police report after arriving at the polling station and being told that she had already voted, Sinar Harian reported.

Rozana Mokhtar, 35, said she was planning to vote for the first time at SK Taman Mahsuri in Padang Serai.

“After checking my IC, the worker at the polling station was shocked and told me that my name had been removed (from the voter registration system). Someone had used a fake IC and voted in my name,” she was quoted as saying.
