TAMBUNAN: SM St Martin and SK Kiawayan emerged as the overall champions for the secondary and primary school categories of the District School Sports Council (MSSD) Athletics Championship held at the Tambunan Sports Complex here.
The second and third places for secondary schools were respectively won by SMK Tambunan and SMK Nambayan while the second and third places for primary schools were won by SK Kaingaran and SK St Theresa.
The tournament saw the participation of 738 athletes, including students from the Integration Special Education Programme who participated from 29 primary school contingents, four secondary school contingents, and one contingent from Sabah Malaysia Sports School.
A total of 24 events were contested with 144 gold medals in various categories offered in addition to witnessing 31 new district records being created, including one which rewrote a record that had lasted for 23 years.
