Kota Kinabalu: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) Youth supported the Federal Government’s effort to make the wearing of batik compulsory on Thursdays specifically for Federal officers and hope that this will be extended to all states including Sabah and that wearing of batik is also encouraged on other working days.
For Sabah, PBS Youth Chief Christopher Mandut suggested the State Government allow and encourage the wearing of Sabah traditional motif-based batik or work shirt.
“Sabah is famous for its ethnic and cultural diversity. We have more than 30 ethnic groups with various interesting and meaningful traditional heritage in terms of customs and culture.
“Each tribe in Sabah has its own traditional motif which can be made into Sabah batik that highlights the uniqueness of the tribes in Sabah,” he said.
The Chairman of Perkasa Realty Sdn Bhd said this effort would be also in line with the struggle of PBS which prioritises racial diversity and preserving local culture.
