Kota Kinabalu: Some 17 species of alien plants were recorded within six study sites in the former Mamut copper mine in Ranau.

The study conducted by a team of Sabah Parks personnel – Venielie Terrence Justine, Jamil Kasmin, Rossiti Maineh Karim, Kalapin Sampin, Sukaibin Sumail and Yabainus Juhalin – found the Asteraceae family being the most represented.

“Samples of the alien plants were only collected in six sites within three zones, namely Nasapang Dump, Lohan Dump and North Dump, due to weather constraints,” said the team on their preliminary checklist of alien plant species poster presentation at the Scientific Seminar on Mamut and Darvel Bay, here, Monday.

They added that 28 specimens of alien plants were successfully gathered across the three zones.
