Kota Kinabalu: THE upstream river area near the lake of the former Mamut copper mine, in Ranau, had been found to be clean and not polluted.
This was concluded in the preliminary survey of freshwater fish in the said area by a team of researchers from Sabah Parks – Juannis Gampoyo, Ramlan Miadin, Martinah Latim, Jalaludin Sinosun, Edward Minsun, Vimol Sigam and Benedict Butit.
The survey area had been divided into five stations and fish collection was conducted on four sites.
“The finding of two species of fish in Sungai Mamut in the preliminary survey contributed to the biodiversity data of the former mine,” they said on a poster presentation of their survey at the Scientific Seminar on Mamut and Darvel Bay, here, Monday.
