Vaping believed to be cause of Ranau bully case

RANAU: Vaping in the dormitory is believed to be the cause of several students being beaten by a group of other students at a boarding secondary school here. 

A video clip of the incident has gone viral on social media since Friday.

Ranau District Police Chief DSP Simiun Lomudin said police have detained 10 students of the school in question to assist in the investigations.

“Five students were arrested yesterday (Friday) and another five today (Saturday), all aged 15 to 17,” he said when contacted, Saturday.

“All the students are currently in police custody and will be released on bail after the investigation on them is completed.”

He added that initial investigations showed the incident happened on August 3 before it went viral on social media on Friday.

“The incident is believed to have started after one of the students hit four others said to be unhappy with him vaping in the dormitory,” said Simiun, adding the case is being investigated under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting and Section 506 of the Penal Code for threatening.

On Friday, a video clip lasting five minutes and 33 seconds on the incident went viral on social media. They were seen discussing something before some students slapped, punched and kicked some other students.
