Kota Kinabalu: A construction worker pleaded guilty in the Magistrate’s Court here Thursday to having an air gun.
George Amatus, 31, admitted to having a Glock 19 air pistol in his room at a unit at PPR Taman Sri Serigai, Putatan at 6.30pm on Sept 1.
However, Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie deferred facts and sentencing to Sept 19 following an application by the prosecution, pending an Army Mechanical Rifle Armament (Amra) report.
George is facing a jail term of up to a year or fine of up to RM5,000 or both if convicted under Section 36 of the Arms Act 1960.
The prosecution proposed bail at RM5,000 while duty counsel Carmen Khoo, representing George, applied for a lower bail.
The court released George on a bail of RM1,000 in two sureties pending the fact and sentencing date.
In another case, a labourer was jailed 10 months and fined RM1,000 or two months jail for shoplifting.
Musrail Wara, 44, admitted to stealing two boxes of deodorant, nine bottles of herbal medicated ointment and five boxes of paracetamol at the Guardian Health and Beauty premises at ITCC Penampang on Sept 2 at 11.55am.
Earlier, the court was informed by the prosecution that Musrail was seen through the security camera stuffing the items into his bag and walking out without paying.
Musrail was detained outside the premises and handed to police, said the prosecution.
The charge under Section 380 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to 10 years and liability of a fine, on conviction.
