Kota Kinabalu: Datuk Armizam Mohd Ali said he has proposed that local white rice in Sabah be made a controlled item to streamline its pricing with the peninsula's.
The Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Sabah & Sarawak Affairs and Special Duties) said he submitted the proposal in a federal Cabinet meeting on Friday and also to the Chief Minster, Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
He said the proposed measure is to include the pricing of local white rice under the Paddy and Rice Control Act (Act 522), 1994, Rice Order (Grade and Price Control) (Amendment) No.5 2008, while the local white rice pricing in Sabah has never been included in the price controlled list since 2008.
"I mooted the proposal in the Federal Cabinet on Friday to support Sabah's local rice industry to remain sustainable and competitive," said Armizan at an event today according to a statement.
