Ex-government-linked company manager claims trial to Criminal Breach of Trust

TAWAU: A former senior manager of a government-linked company (GLC) claimed trial, Wednesday, to three charges of criminal breach of trust (CBT) at the Tawau Special Corruption Court.

Hasnawi Dawi, 48, pleaded not guilty in front of Judge Jason Juga to three counts of submitting fake claims amounting to RM26,000 for maintenance projects that were not implemented from November 2017 to January 2018.

The charges were framed under Section 405 of the Penal Code and punishable under Section 406 of the same law, which carries a maximum jail term of 10 years and whipping and fine, on conviction.

Juga set Oct 17 for the next mention of the case. The court set bail at RM12,000, with RM3,000 to be deposited into the court’s account for all the charges, with one local surety.

The accused was also barred from tampering with the prosecution witnesses and must report to the nearest Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office every two months.

He was also ordered to surrender his international passport to the court.

According to the charges, Hasnawi, when he was senior manager of Sahabat Oil Products Factory at FGV Sdn Bhd, committed the said offences at the company’s Lahad Datu office on Nov 30 and Dec 11, 2017, and on Jan 19, 2018.

The claims were for the replacement of insulation pipeline pumps and floor tiles.

MACC was represented by prosecuting officer Norsham Saharom, while the accused was represented by Chang & Kamaruddin Co.
