PENAMPANG: The district’s Criminal Investigation Division disconnected power supply to several premises carrying out illegal gambling activities in a coordinated operation with Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) on Wednesday.

Penampang District Police Chief Supt Sammy Newton said the action was taken under provisions of Section 21A of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953.

“SESB’s involvement in the operation ensured the electricity-cutting process was done correctly and safely,” he said after leading the operations dubbed “Op Dadu”.

Sammy stressed that the crackdown served as Penampang police’s serious warning to illegal gambling operators.
