Assaulting wife: Soldier fined
Section 323 carries a jail term of up to a year or a fine of up to RM2,000 or both on conviction while Section 326A states that whoever causes hurt to his spouse or former spouse, a child, a disabled adult, or other family members and commits an offence under Section 323, 324, 325, 326, 334 or 335 shall be punished with imprisonment for a term twice as long as the maximum term for which he would be liable to on conviction for that offence.
Kota Kinabalu: A 32-year-old army personnel was fined RM2,500 or four months jail for assaulting his wife last year.

Md Zul Iskandar Hassan pleaded guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to punching his wife at the back of her head, cheek, and back of the body and pulling her hand at 9pm on June 4, 2022 at a unit in the Lok Kawi Camp.

He was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code read together with Section 326A of the same Code.

The court was told by the prosecution that Zul had accused his wife of having a relationship with another man.

In another case, a paperless man was jailed 14 months for burglary.

Sabri Abtani, 31, admitted to breaking into a house of Tong Vui Lip with the intention to steal at Jalan Kobusak, Penampang at 9.41pm, on May 5.

He was charged under Section 457 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to 14 years and liability of a fine, on conviction.

The court was told that Tong found his house broken into and valuables missing.

Police investigations  managed to extract 21 fingerprints and five of them were Sabri’s.

The court ordered Sabri to be referred to the Immigration Department after serving his sentence.
