KUDAT: A total of 1,030 individuals, 86 vehicles and 85 houses as well as premises were checked in three-day integrated operation dubbed “Operasi Bersepadu” conducted at several locations around here from Wednesday (Sept 20).

Esscom Commander DCP Victor Sanjos said the operation was a commitment to keep the district safe from cross-border threats and maintain public safety within districts under the Eastern Sabah Safe Zone (Esszone).

He said the operation focused on locations with a larger presence of illegal immigrants such as the market, settlements near and at the edge of the Kudat town.

“During the operation led by Esscom, five illegal immigrants from the Philippines were found residing in the country without valid documents,” he said, adding the suspects were referred to the Immigration Department for further action.

“This is important in keeping the State clear from elements of cross-border criminals, discourage smuggling of controlled items, untaxed goods as well as other enforcement issues,” he said.

Among others, the operation involved the police, armed forces, Immigration Department, National Registration Department, Water Department, Rela, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd, Road and Transport Department and Kudat Town Board, among others.
