Esscom Chief calls on Chief Minister

Kota Kinabalu: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor on Wednesday received a courtesy call from Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) Commander DCP Victor Sanjos who briefed him on the latest security situation in the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (Esszone).

It was Victor’s first courtesy call on the Chief Minister since his appointment as Esscom Commander in June this year.

The Chief Minister was also informed about the various community programmes implemented to raise security awareness among the Esszone community.

Also in the Esscom entourage was its Chief Executive Officer Dr Jamaluddin Mohd Ali.

Esscom is the main enforcement authority for Esszone, a security zone launched by the Government on March 25, 2013, following persistent attacks by pirates and militants from the southern Philippines that occurred in the eastern part of Sabah, especially after the 2013 Lahad Datu standoff.

It includes the districts of Kudat, Kota Marudu, Pitas, Beluran, Sandakan, Kinabatangan, Lahad Datu, Kunak, Semporna and Tawau (including Kalabakan) which is neighbouring the Philippines.

On the same day, Hajiji also received an update on the State’s maritime situation during the meeting with Sabah and Labuan Maritime Director, First Admiral Maritime Che Engku Suhaimi Che Engku Daik.

The Sabah Maritime delegates included Deputy Director (Operations) Captain Maritime Mahmad Faizal Ahmad and Deputy Director (Management) Siti Norhaini Osli.
