Fined for assaulting girlfriend
Faizal had committed an offence under Section 323 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to one year or fine of up to RM2,000 or both, on conviction.
Kota Kinabalu: A 44-year-old man was fined RM1,000 or a month’s jail on Wednesday for assaulting his girlfriend last year.

Muhd Faizal Hussin pleaded guilty before Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles to voluntarily causing hurt to Suziene Madin at 9.30pm on Nov 10, 2022 in a car at Kg Tuavon, Penampang.

Inspector Kelvan Elson Maik informed the court that a quarrel ensued between Faizal and the complainant inside her car.

While quarrelling, Faizal punched the woman’s face twice, causing her to sustain cuts on her left face.

The complainant then lodged a police report against Faizal at 10.37pm on the same day.

Unrepresented, Faizal requested a minimum sentence by saying that he has just gotten a job and taking care of his mother.

Faizal told the court that he was drunk at the time of the offence and her face was injured due to the bangle he was wearing when he beat her.

The prosecution applied for a deterrent sentence to be imposed.

In another case, a self-employed man was charged with molesting his stepdaughter.

The 36-year-old accused allegedly committed the offence against the 19-year-old woman in an apartment in Kepayan at 5am on March 13, this year.

The charge under Section 354 of the Penal Code provides for a jail term of up to 10 years, or with fine or with whipping or with any two of such punishments, on conviction.

Kelvan in applying for a mention date proposed bail at RM3,000 in two sureties.

The accused’s wife who was present in court, informed the magistrate that her husband had a memory problem.

The court fixed Nov 14 for mention and released the accused on a bail of RM1,000 in one surety.
