LAHAD DATU: The community here is called to jointly take steps to eliminate the breeding grounds of Aedes mosquitoes to prevent dengue outbreaks.
State Health Department (JKNS) Director, Dr Asits Sanna, said the number of dengue cases this year increased compared to last year.
“As of September 2023, a total of 5,340 dengue cases have been recorded compared to 4,055 cases in 2022.
“Although the number of cases has increased and showed a worrying trend of improvement, preventive and enforcement measures have been taken.
“We call on the community to spend 10 minutes every week to find and eliminate mosquito breeding places in their respective homes,” he said when officiating the 2023 Convention of Environmental Health Officers (PKP) and Assistant Environmental Health Officers (PPKP) of Sabah.
Dr Asits said, in addition to taking early prevention and enforcement measures, it also conducts regular health research.
He said JKNS also held a health promotion to foster awareness about the dangers of dengue.
“Health promotion was carried out by JKNS in villages to identify early signs of dengue fever and preventive measures.
“These measures are implemented to control dengue and prevent infection to the public,” he added.
