Kota Kinabalu: East Malaysia received the first ever visit by a Canadian navy ship, the HMCS Ottawa, at the Sepanggar naval base near here Wednesday.

The ship with 250 sailors, soldiers and aviators led by its Commanding Officer Commander Sam Patchell sailed into the base at about 9am and will remain docked there until Oct 14.

The port visit is part of Canada’s ongoing defence engagements in the Indo-Pacific region.

During the visit, the ship’s personnel will meet with their Royal Malaysia Navy counterparts and other defence stakeholders to promote collaboration and friendship between both countries.
