Labuan shops up drink prices
Empty tables and chairs in a coffeeshop reflecting the low volume in business.
LABUAN: Several coffeeshops in town have increased the price of a large cup of coffee or tea with milk by 50 sen to RM3 and attributing the hike to low sales and higher cost of ingredients and doing business.

An operator who asked not to be named said the prices of ingredients have not increased overnight but slowly “and we felt the pinch when it reached about 30pc higher than before.”

He cited condensed milk (1kg) which cost RM6.40 while evaporated milk (390gm) at RM3.80. Similarly the price of coffee and tea of good grade also increased to RM20 and RM12.

“Adding to this some costumers required to have strong (kaw) coffee and this needed more coffee powder in the preparation,” he said.
