TAWAU: Police arrested a 26-year-old man suspected of being involved in a house burglary case in the district at about 4pm on Wednesday.
Tawau Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said burglary tools such as a screwdriver, hacksaw, scissors, fishing line and a piece of plastic rope were also seized from the local suspect.
He said the suspect was detained at the Tawau Police Station and admitted to being involved in the case during investigations.
He believed the tools, in a backpack belonging to the suspect, were used for burglary.
Jasmin said the suspect was detained for further investigation under Section 457 of the Penal Code.
The police are also tracking the suspect’s accomplices who live in the area, he added.
In another case, police arrested a 48-year-old man in possession of syabu on Thursday.
Jasmin said the suspect was driving a Perodua Rusa suspiciously near the Al-Khautar Mosque roundabout at 3.50 am.
“Body checks on the suspect revealed a small transparent plastic packet containing clear crystals suspected to be Syabu.
“The suspect was then taken to the Tawau Police Station where a urine test confirmed he was positive for Methamphetamine,” he said.
Jasmin said the case was investigated under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
He urged the public to channel information related to crime and drugs by using the Volunteer Smartphone Patrol (VSP) application or through the nearest Police Station or email to polistawau@gmail.com.
“Identities of all informants are kept confidential,” he assured.
