Ex-Miros DG claims trial to forgery charges
Former Miros director-general Khairil Anwar Abu Kassim is accused of forging documents for the tender of vehicles.
SHAH ALAM: The former director-general of the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (Miros), Khairil Anwar Abu Kassim, has claimed trial to four charges of forging documents related to the tender of vehicles.

He pleaded not guilty after the charges were read to him before sessions court judge Awang Kerisnada Mahmud here.

Khairil Anwar, 47, was accused of forging tender documents from Tanjong Nova Sdn Bhd, Perantis Land Sdn Bhd, Bright Ability Sdn Bhd and Winntrack Auto for the supply of eight vehicles for crash testing.

The charges were framed under Section 468 of the Penal Code, which carries a punishment of imprisonment of up to seven years and a fine upon conviction.

Khairil Anwar was accused of forging the documents in July of 2017, at the Miros office in Kajang, Selangor.

Awang Kerisnada granted the accused bail of RM50,000 with one surety.

He ordered Khairil Anwar to surrender his passport to court, report himself to the Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission’s headquarters in Putrajaya once a month, and be present at every case mention and trial.

The judge also ordered that Khairil Anwar shall not directly or indirectly communicate with his colleagues in Miros as a number of them will be called as prosecution witnesses.

He is also prevented from having access to Miros’s computer systems and data, as well as documents to prevent any tampering of evidence.

Khairil Anwar was represented by lawyers Geethan Ram Vincent and Revin Kumar, while deputy public prosecutor Fadhly Zamry prosecuted.

Case management has been set for Nov 21.
