Little for Labuan to cheer about
Wong said many Labuanites were disappointed with the budget because despite many pleas, including from Labuan Umno, to restore the full duty-free status of the island, it had not been considered.
Kota Kinabalu: The Labuan Chinese Chamber of Commerce (LCCC) commended Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for tabling a “generous” 2024 Budget despite financial constraints, saying it showed rakyat’s (people) welfare remained the priority of the Madani government.

LCCC Chairman Datuk Wong Kii Yii said the budget undeniably contained good tidings for many individuals and sectors at the national level.

“However, for Labuan, there is little to cheer about. 

“This is because there is no special allocation or incentives for local entities despite the economic challenges faced and which have been acknowledged by the Government with the assurance of solving the Labuan dilemma,” he said.
