LABUAN: The drastic drop in the passenger volume handled by the Labuan International Ferry Terminal is worrying and could be a reflection of the deteriorating local economy.
Labuan Chamber of Commerce Chairman Datuk Dahlif Singh said a study should be done to find out why less people were using the terminal for arrivals and departures.
“Such a study would reveal whether it is due to erosion of Labuan’s duty-free status the last two years or stricter immigration checks introduced at the end of the last year,” he said.
He was commenting on the increase in the passenger terminal fees by RM3 for domestic marine routes and RM5 to Brunei, effective November 1, by LBA Holding Sdn Bhd, which is managing the terminal.
