Kota Kinabalu: Two investigation papers have been opened under Section 298A of the Penal Code in Penampang, involving cases of religious sensitivities that could disrupt harmony,Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun, who disclosed this, said no arrests have been made yet.
“There are irresponsible parties spreading viral messages involving religious sensitivities.
“Such acts should not be done in our peaceful and harmonious society. We hope such matters do not recur so as to safeguard our harmony,” he said.
Advising the public to be more responsible and stop playing religious sentiments, Jauteh said:
“I’m sure the author and those who keep re-sharing do not even have the basic understanding of the religion that they are commenting on.
“I hope members of the public who happen to come across it do not fan the flames by propagating more intolerance,” he told a press conference at the Sabah Police Contingent, here, Friday.
Meanwhile, Jauteh advised tour operators and travel agents in the State to brief their foreign visitors on the proper dress etiquette in Malaysia.
He said the police were still investigating the case of indecent photos of women which surfaced on social media recently.
“We are investigating if the photos are of the some woman,” he said.
He warned that action could be taken under Section 29(a) of the Penal Code for obscene acts in public, which is punishable by imprisonment of up to three years, if convicted.
