Four PAS-led states can be economic powerhouse, says Perlis MB
Shukri Ramli says Perlis received RM1.3 billion in investments last week.
SHAH ALAM: The unofficial grouping of four PAS-led states has the potential to be an economic powerhouse with former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad as its economic adviser, says Perlis menteri besar Shukri Ramli.

Perlis, Terengganu, Kelantan and Kedah make up the grouping, known as “state government four” of “SG4”.

“This potential in SG4 would be feared by the 10th prime minister,” Shukri said at a ceramah last night, referring to Anwar Ibrahim.

Shukri said just last week RM1.3 billion in investments was recorded in his state.

He added that with investment flowing into all four states there was no need to rely on the federal government.

“And then we can focus on the wellbeing of the people of Perlis.”

Earlier this month, Mahathir urged SG4 to be “business-friendly” in order to attract investments.

Shukri also said his administration needed time to step out of Barisan Nasional’s shadow, after the coalition governed Perlis “for seven decades”.

“The first term is focused on fixing and cleaning up whatever was inherited by the previous government. I have only been in power for 11 months and will need a longer time to refine my administration.”

Perikatan Nasional (PN) won the state polls in Perlis in the 15th general election (GE15) last November, ending 65 years of BN rule in the state.
