Kota Kinabalu: A 34-year-old man charged with committing physical sexual harassment against his daughter will go trial on May 8-9 next year.
Sessions Court Judge Amir Shah Amir Hassan set the date for the man who maintained his plea of not guilty.
The man is accused of committing the offence against the 14-year-old girl by fondling her breasts at 2.30am on Aug 15 at a workers’ quarters in Inanam, here.
The offence under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 provides for a jail term of up to 20 years, and whipping, on conviction.
Pending the disposal of his case, the man was ordered to be remanded further.
Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Dacia Jane Romanus appeared for the prosecution while counsel Mohamad Syazwan Shah Mohamad Ali defended the man.
Meanwhile, a 38-year-old illegal immigrant was jailed nine months for entering the State illegally.
Alfhad Julian admitted before Sessions Court Judge Azreena Aziz, to entering the State without any valid documents.
He was arrested on March 8 at 1.10am at the squatter houses near Apartment Cyber City, here.
The court ordered Alfhad to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest.
DPP Syarifah Nursyuhada Tuan Mamat prosecuted while Alfhad who was supposed to stand trial but changed his plea, was represented by counsel Jakariya Ab Jalil.
