Kota Kinabalu: Lions Clubs of Kota Kinabalu joined forces to host the Peace Poster Contest, an internationally recognized challenge meant to engage young minds to creatively express what peace means to them.
Some 37 participants aged 11-13 from various schools took part in the three-hour contest themed “Dare to Dream”, channelling their visions of peace through art.
The top three posters were that of Pheobe Lau Li XII from Chung Hwa KK, Wong Tze Jing from Shan Tao (runner-up) and Tai Zheng Jie from Kian Kok Middle School (3rd place).
Organizing Chairperson from Lions Club of KK Downtown, Sunny Chai, said that the Lions Clubs of Kota Kinabalu have a longstanding commitment to promoting peace and understanding within the community, and that this event was a further testament to their dedication.
“This contest has been a true celebration of the dreams and creativity of our young participants. We believe that these posters are not just pieces of art; they are symbols of hope and a brighter future.
“We are grateful for the support of our partners, sponsors, and dedicated Lions members who have made this event a great success,” he said at Kian Kok Middle School.
Also present were several Lions dignitaries, including Region 7 Chairperson Rekha Notaney, Region 6 Chairperson Anny Poh, Zone 17 Chairperson Margaret Chong, Zone 16 Chairperson Frank Leong, and Presidents and members of all the participating clubs. Kian Kok Middle School served as the venue sponsor supported by its Principal, Mr Goh Teck Seng.
