Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Police made their biggest meat cartel bust this year with seizures worth RM20.4 million on Saturday.
Sabah Deputy Police Commissioner DCP Datuk Shahurinain Jais said raids on two repackaging warehouses in Penampang saw various smuggled poultry, meat and seafood.
“They are believed to originate from Brazil, Germany, Poland, Sweden and Australia. All these countries do not comply with the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia's (Jakim) halal standards. Investigations reveal that some of the meat had expired yet were still sold in packagings with fake halal logos,” he told a press conference.
