Kota Kinabalu: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor wants at least 30 per cent participation of local contractors in Petronas’ services in the State.
He said to achieve this target, local contractors or companies need to be groomed.
“Right now, we have only 11 per cent participation, which is insufficient. We want at least 30 per cent participation,” he told the media after the closing ceremony of the State Youth Assembly sitting, here, Tuesday.
Hajiji said he discussed Sabah’s aim with Petronas and that they (Petronas) agreed to it.
“It is up to us,” he said.
“Some of our contractors have not yet reached that level, but they can have joint venture with partners from the peninsula or Sarawak, and in a few years’ time they will have the experience and skills.
“That is what we want for Sabah, otherwise we will be left out,” he added.
Earlier this month, Hajiji urged local contractors to collaborate with Petronas to secure increased oil and gas income sharing for Sabah across the whole value chain.
This included upstream activities, liquefied natural gas, Petronas Chemicals Group Berhad and oil and gas services.
