Kota Kinabalu: As end of year approaches and the region’s turf clubs entering their respective seasons’ finale, Royal Sabah Turf Club’s (RSTC) very own Gold Cup is scheduled on November 19 at Tambalang Racecourse.
The fine tradition of the running of the Gold Cup dates back to more than half a century.
On this anointed date, the racing connections in Sabah have every intention to put up their strongest gallopers for a stab at landing the coveted Gold Cup and a share of the total prize money of RM56,200.
For this weekend, the question on every racing fan’s lips for the Singapore Gold Cup race (Nov 11) is whether Lim’s Kosciuszko can recover from his rare defeat on Oct 14.
With Hong Kong Great sitting out of this race, the path is made easier for Lim’s Kosciuszko’s to cement his status as one of Kranji’s finest ever.
Young and fast rising Pacific Emperor, with a record of eight starts and six wins, has to step up considerably to prove that he is truly on the upward trajectory.
Following his recent success, RSTC’s Win Win aims to continue his fine form with a coveted slot at Race 12 on Singapore Gold Cup day.
Realistically, a placing on board will be a big boost to his growing confidence but as the saying goes, never say never. With in-form jockey Harry Kasim astride and drawn with a very good barrier (1), Win Win may just upset the odds if he can jump out well ahead.
Singapore, Hong Kong, Selangor, Perak and local race meetings are telecast “live” at RSTC’s Off-Course centres in Tanjung Aru and Keningau, and at Tambalang Racecourse every Saturday and Sunday as well as Wednesday evenings. Avid racing fans are welcome to attend.
