Kota Kinabalu: Visa on arrival is a very good policy that can attract and increase the number of Chinese tourists visiting Malaysia, says Kota Kinabalu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KKCCCI) President, Datuk Michael Lui.
He said that the planned opening of visas on arrival is important for the development of tourism-related industries in our country, especially in Sabah.
“Our tourism industry must further improve and strengthen the packaging and innovation of tourism products to strengthen our obvious competitive advantages.
“Sabah’s overall social security and tourist attractions are able to attract more overseas tourists as preferred tourist destinations,” he said in a statement, here, Thursday.
Michael said he supported the government’s relaxation of the entry policy for Chinese and Indian tourists who come to Malaysia on chartered flights, and that the government’s new initiatives under the Malaysia Visa Liberalisation Plan will attract more tourists and investors, especially from India and China.
Speaking about the 15-day visa on arrival measure, he said he hoped the Government would soon expand it for tourists from China and India holding ordinary passports to simplify the visa-on-arrival procedures.
He also expects the government to expand entry visa concessions from China and India to other countries as an initiative to attract more foreign investors and tourists.
Michael also said he hoped that visa-on-arrival should be two-way and it would be best if both Malaysia and China could implement a visa-free policy for each other’s tourists.
“The policy that can attract and increase the number of Chinese tourists visiting Malaysia.
“Malaysian tourists will also enjoy the same preferential treatment when travelling to China, which makes it a win-win solution for mutual benefit.”
