RANAU: Climbing Mount Kinabalu appears to be more challenging this month when another climber suffered from complications while scaling the mountain last Sunday.

The 41-year-old local man who took a wrong step and fell, had to be rescued by the Mount Kinabalu search and rescue team (Mosar).

Ranau Fire and Rescue Department Chief, PPgB Ridwan bin Mohd Taib, said the incident happened at KM 4.2 of the Mount Kinabalu climbing trail, at about 2.45pm.

“We received a call through the Station Line and a team of eight Mosar personnel led by the Operation Officer, PBK II KUP Neal Thomson rushed to the scene. Also involved was a mountain guide.

“The team found out that the climber fell while descending the mountain and complained of rib pain and difficulty in breathing,” he said, adding that the victim was later put on a stretcher and carried to Timpohon Gate.

According to Ridwan, the victim was then taken to the hospital using the EMRS machine for further treatment, and the operation ended at 7.02pm.
