JAKARTA: President Joko Widodo or Jokowi in a meeting with the Chairman of ExxonMobil Corporation Darren Woods discussed a $15 billion investment plan of the global oil and gas company in Indonesia.
“I appreciate the plan to cooperate for the development of green petrochemical and carbon capture storage (CSS) technology amounting to $15 billion,” Jokowi said to Darren Woods as quoted in the press release received in Jakarta Thursday morning.
During the meeting, Jokowi stated that the CSS facility from Exxon would be the biggest in Southeast Asia and one of the world’s most advanced petrochemical complexes.
Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi explained after the meeting that Jokowi will continue to push for this investment to be realised.
According to Minister Retno, Jokowi also invited ExxonMobil to invest in the new renewable energy sector and the infrastructure development of the new state capital IKN.
“That was the result of the President’s meeting with ExxonMobil,” she said.
Jokowi was accompanied by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, and Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan throughout the meeting.
