Lorry driver jailed for threatening to hurt owner of coffeeshop
The court ordered Affenddy to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest. He was charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to seven years or fine or both, on conviction.
Kota Kinabalu: A lorry driver was jailed six months, Friday, for threatening to injure a coffeeshop owner.

Mohd Affenddy Jamanus, 46, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles to committing the offence against  Tay Ling, 64, at 8am on May 18, this year at Kedai Kopi Mei Mei, Kg Air.

The court was informed by the prosecution that while the complainant was in the shop, she saw a drunk customer, later identified as Affenddy, entering the premises and walked straight to the fridge.

When the complainant asked, Affenddy went amok and was abusive before strangling her neck.

The complainant immediately lodged a police report which led to the arrest of Affenddy at 10am the same day.

Duty counsel Mohd Nizri Zikiri, representing Affenddy, requested a lenient sentence because Affenddy, who is married with three children, had been detained since May 18. The prosecution applied for a deterrent sentence.

In another case, a 30-year-old man was fined RM1,000 or a month’s jail for engaging in an online gambling session using his handphone.

Iisham Ismail admitted before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to committing the offence at Jalan Inanam Laut at 6.02pm on Oct 27.

The court was told by the prosecution that Iisham was arrested by police, acting on information, and his handphone used for online gambling and RM50 cash were seized.

The charge under Section 7(2) of the Common Gaming House Act 1953 provides for a jail term of up to RM5,000 or up to six months jail or both, on conviction.
