Kota Kinabalu dominate Sabah Junior Closed Championship

Kota Kinabalu: Kota Kinabalu players dominated the Sabah Junior Closed Squash Championship held at the Likas Squash Centre recently.

They swept all the titles at stakes with Tristan Andreas Muyou Angkaus taking the boys Under-19 title after beating Jedidiah Kwan in the final and in third place was Danial Ali.

The girls Under-19 title went to Amber Kristy Muyou with a win over Erin Addryana Pg Johari and in third place was Ann Rebecca Andderias from Ranau.

Five categories were held and the other top three winners were Muhd Zidane Ziqcree, Dave Elvin Stamos, Cliff Elmer (boys Under-15); Marion Jesse James, Branice Chin Kai Xin, Isya Zulaikha Kaltes (girls Under-15); Osward Wong Sein Yao, Jediael Habel Jaffry, Isaac Andy Muyou (boys Under- 13); Joshua Adam Kong, Muhammad Fakhrie Marwan, Rizqi Iman Sabri (boys Under-11); Francine Ava, Baby Herry, Nur Iman Madinah (girls Under-11) and Althea Paige Stanley, Nur Adelia Ezzara, Petricia Frananda (beginners).

More than 50 players from Ranau, Tawau, Sandakan and Kota Kinabalu took part in the three-day competition hosted by Kota Kinabalu District Squash Association.

The closing ceremony was officiated by Sabah Squash Association deputy president Lai Pak Peng representing its president Datuk Charles O. Pang.

He praised Kota Kinabalu District Association for their hard work to ensure the success of the tournament and was pleased with the true sportmanship displayed by the players.

He also hoped squash would become more popular so that the general public would encourage their children to take up the sport.
