Kondiu make clean sweep at Mimpaagat Cup
The Kondiu 45s and 55s players celebrate their wins after the finals.
Kota Kinabalu: Team Kondiu made a clean sweep in the 6th Mimpaagat Cup 2023 11-a-side football tournament that ended at the Kibouvang Football Field last Sunday (November 19).

They took home both the masters 45s and 55s titles in the tournament organised by Kelab Rekreasi Mimpaagat Tokou Sabah with support from the Youth and Sports Department .

In the 45s category, they edged Bobohizan 3-2 in the final to lift the trophy. They had taken a two-goal lead in the first half with strikes from Dennis Kung and Albert Ngau.

Although Bobohizan managed to reduce the deficit immediately after the start with a goal from Saller Ampuling, Kondiu were able to reclaim the two-goal advantage with the third goal scored by ex-State player Edward Emin.

Bobohizan tried to make a comeback and was rewarded with a late goal from a free kick taken by Timothy Lojimin but it came too late.

However, Bobohizan’s Rolando Ahanggai was judged man of the match while Kodius’ goalkeeper  Roy Suleiman was named the best goalkeeper and  Gerry Asing from Sosovitan was the top scorer with 18 goals in the tournament.

In the grandmasters 55s category final, Kondiu who had won the league title earlier thrashed Tompulingot 7-2 with Yap Teck Vong scoring four and one each from team manager Siven Nair, Patrick Jusitne and tournament top scorer (18) Edward Emin while Tompulingot replied through club chairman Aloysius Wong and Sanno Paul.

Kondiu also won all the individual awards with midfielder Agil Bajarai named man of the match and Brandon @ Aming as the best goalkeeper.

Meanwhile, tournament secretary Jason Blasius said apart from the 7th edition Mimpaagat Cup, they will also be organising the Borneo International 7s in May, as well as taking part in various international tournaments in the Asia-Pacific.
