Nine penalised over drugs
Rospandi and Amran were jailed seven months each while Abu was fined RM2,000 or eight months’ jail each.
Kota Kinabalu: Nine people were penalised by the Magistrate’s Court here for committing drug-related offences.

Six of them, Standly Lastep, Saifur Rahman, Rospandi Suman, Thien Siak Voo, Amran Ahmad and Abu Bakar pleaded guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to taking syabu and amphetamine at separate locations here and in Penampang.

Standly was sentenced to 18 months’ jail while Saifur and Thien were handed 12 months’ jail each.

Rospandi and Amran were jailed seven months each while Abu was fined RM2,000 or eight months’ jail each.

Taking drugs under Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drug Act provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to two years jail, on conviction.

Meanwhile, Endirili Asari, Arifin Ado and Izwan Rashid admitted to having syabu weighing 0.33gm, 0.12gm and 0.02gm, respectively.

Endirili was jailed for 12 months while Izwan and Arifin were handed nine months each.

The three were charged under Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which provides for a fine of up to RM100,000 or up to five years’ jail, or both, on conviction.

In another case, an undocumented man was sentenced to one-month jail for stealing a fan blade.

Unemployed Jepri Jomo pleaded guilty to stealing the blade worth RM50 belonging to one Risal Roslan at 12.30am on Nov 14 outside a rented room at Kg Air here.

Jepri was charged under Section 379 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to seven years or fine or both on conviction.

The court was informed by the prosecution that Jepri was caught by the complainant who saw him stealing the fan blade placed outside of the complainant’s room and handed him to the police.

Unrepresented, Jepri requested for leniency.

He was ordered to be referred to the Immigration Department after serving the sentence.

In another case, a 38-year-old man was charged with disposing of stolen jewellery.

Alif Aliamat claimed trial to dispose of two gold rings belonging to one Mark Parera at Sabategas shop in Sinsuran at 5.50pm on Nov 10.

He was charged under Section 414 of the Penal Code.

Alif was offered bail at RM2,000 in two sureties pending case management on Jan 9, next year.
