2,000 Tenom folks want concrete bridge

Tenom: About 2,000 villagers in eight villages here are appealing to the Government to upgrade the Kampung Ponontomon Saga bridge to a concrete one.

The villages are Kampung Paal Seberang, Kg Sindungon, Kg Kalasasan, Kg Pada, Kg Inubai, Kg Labut, Kg Lalandang and Kg Sinusut.

A Kg Paal Seberang villager Haji Razali Danis said the bridge was often damaged causing problems for users.

He said the bridge is also often maintained but only using poor quality woods, causing it to not last long.

He said the bridge which was built a long time ago and remained the same despite the Government changing several times.

“Users, especially the villagers from the eight villages, appealed to the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah-Pakatan Harapan (GRS-PH) Plus Government based on the slogan “Sabah Maju Jaya” (SMJ) to change the face of this bridge,” he said.

He said the time has come for the bridge to be upgraded in line with the current development and development of the economic sector in this area which is centred around the agricultural activities of oil palm and rubber commodities.

He said if this bridge is not upgraded it may cause problems in the long-term because it is also used by heavy vehicles.

In addition to the bridge, the residents are also requesting that the Government maintain Jalan Batu 7, Saga which has partially caved in.

“The Government through the relevant department needs to take immediate action to overcome this problem for the comfort of the people involved,” he stressed.
