Kota Kinabalu: PM Anwar Ibrahim has asked the Education Ministry to also focus on improving English proficiency in all schools in the country next year.

“I said throughout the country, proficiency in Malay must be good, even though Sabah and Sarawak are given some flexibility for English.

“But for 2024, apart from a good command of the Malay language throughout the country, I have asked the Education Ministry to also focus on increasing the command of the English language in all schools in our country.

So at a time when we are famous for our national language that is firmly mastered by the people, we also preserve English as a very important international language,” he said.

The Prime Minister also approved RM2 million additional fund on top of the allocation for Penampang requested by Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick who is also Penampang MP.

Anwar said the other allocations for the development of the district requested by Ewon would be forwarded to the respective ministries to look into.
