KUDAT: Three young friends, including a girl, drowned while bathing in an artificial pond at Kg Perpaduan Ria, near here, Thursday. 

They have been identified as Mohd Syahzwan, 7, Wan Hermi and Nurul Isah, both 11. 

Kudat Fire and Rescue Station Chief Ishak Jabas said a team was deployed to the scene after receiving a distress call at 5.36pm. 

The three victims had been retrieved from the pond by members of the public by the time the team arrived. 

Medical officers applied first aid on the trio who were rushed to Kudat Hospital where they were pronounced dead.
