Panel to deal with high prices in Sabah, Sarawak
The Chief Minister said the price of chicken, rice and food items is still high in Sabah. If necessary to inject capital, we will increase it so that the price can be lowered like the price of chicken in the peninsula right now.
Kota Kinabalu: PM Anwar said he will ask Deputy Prime Minister II Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof to chair a special committee to deal with the prices of chicken, rice and other food products which are still high in Sabah and Sarawak.

The committee would look at how to deal with the issue with the help of the Federal Government and some other methods and this would be expedited.

He made the decision after Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor brought the matter to his attention.

“In the peninsula we are more successful, for example in the price of chicken and also, even if the electricity tariff goes up the electricity tariff for the people does not go up but only for the richest. But in Sabah and Sarawak the problem is still complicated.

“The Chief Minister said the price of chicken, rice and food items is still high in Sabah. If necessary to inject capital, we will increase it so that the price can be lowered like the price of chicken in the peninsula right now.

“The Federal Government pays subsidies to ensure that, just like with rice where we pay subsidy so that the price is cheaper, we can lower the price of goods a bit in Sabah.

“Sabahans also need to know that if we don’t accommodate the price will soar higher,” he said.
