TAMBUNAN: Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan hopes the Federal Cabinet reshuffle will bring more changes, results and new developments to Sabah and Sarawak.
He said one significant change was the appointment of Finance Minister II, in addition to changes in the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education.
“We hope these changes will bring good results to the country, including Sabah and Sarawak,” he told reporters after the opening of the new Gombunan Night Market building, here.
Jeffrey, who is also Star Sabah President, said the Cabinet reshuffle was the prerogative of the Prime Minister who took time to make an assessment and research after a year of helming the Unity Government.
“I am grateful that our Minister (Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali), who previously was looking after Sabah and Sarawak affairs without a full portfolio or ministry, is now Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister.
“It is also appropriate for Deputy Prime Minister II (Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof) to lead a new Ministry (Energy Transition and Public Utilities) that also looks after Sabah and Sarawak affairs. He is also the Chairman of the MA63 Technical Committee,” he said.
Earlier when opening the building, Jeffrey, who is also State Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry Minister, said the Government always supports and encourages local people to venture into business at the night market because it is an effort and a medium to market local and agricultural products.
“Since social media has become a current trend, a new approach can be used to promote the night market so that more visitors come to experience the local atmosphere.
“I am also confident that the night market can become one of the tourism products that attracts many people and is capable to stimulate economic growth, especially in the district, if it is well managed, organised and the level of cleanliness is well maintained,” he said.
Jeffrey, who is also a Tambunan Assemblyman, said the night market is a place where the local community can sell food, agricultural products and fruits.
