Kota Kinabalu: It remains unclear whether Datuk Joniston Bangkuai’s tenure as Sabah Tourism Board (STB) Chairman will be extended.
The State Tourism, Culture and Environment Assistant Minister said he has yet to receive any information regarding the matter.
“I can’t speak for myself, I don’t know. I think it is best we wait for the announcement. If there’s anything to wait for,” he told reporters after launching the Regional Tourism Satellite Account (RTSA) Sabah 2022 publication at Shangri-La Tanjung Aru, here, Thursday.
The Kiulu Assemblyman, who has served as STB Chairman for a decade since 2013, was asked to comment on the matter following speculations over the tenure of his post.
Earlier this month, State Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew said the renewal of the STB line-up was still in process.
Asked whether Joniston would retain his position, she said: “It’s a very tricky question”.
She was reported as saying that based on records, the terms of most agencies under her Ministry normally end in November and December.
“There may be some movement, I will look into it. I also consult and discuss with the Chief Minister on such appointments,” she said.
