Church, NGO send RM425k water boost

Kota Kinabalu: Some 3,000 villagers will have clean water supply following a sponsorship worth RM425,000 by collaboration between Rotary Club of Kota Kinabalu Pearl (RCKK Pearl) and the Malaysian Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS).

RCKK Pearl President Rosie Chong said this will further boost the club’s ongoing project – Project Wash (Water and Sanitation) –throughout nine villages from Ranau, Kota Marudu and Pitas.

“The agreement involves a RM425,000 for water projects in nine villages in Sabah’s rural areas which will benefit five in Ranau, two in Kota Marudu and two in Pitas,” she said in a statement.

Representing the Church’s Charity arm was Elder Daniel Kane and Sister Traudi Kane while RCKK Pearl was represented by Chong, Project Chair Datuk Suzannah Liaw and Secretary cum Treasurer Cathrine Liew.

The Wash project that kicked off in 2019 was implemented to provide clean and accessible water to rural villages in in Ranau comprising Kampung Kawiyan, Kampung Manikulau, Kampung Paka, Kampung Nampasan Lama, Kampung Pinawantai, Kampung Tarawas, Kampung Kirokot, Kampung Kilanas Baru and Kampung Narawang.

She also said other club branches such as the Rotary Club of Likas Bay, Rotary Club of Bandar Seri Begawan Brunei, Rotary Club of Changi Singapore and Elite Community Organisation (Pertubuhan Komuniti Elite), Kuala Lumpur will be involved.

“The RCKK Pearl is a dedicated service organization committed to community development and humanitarian projects and through initiatives such as Project Wash, the club aims to make a lasting impact towards those in need,” she added.
