Kota Kinabalu: The body of a baby girl wrapped with a towel was found in a rubbish bin at a shopping mall here on Thursday night.

City Acting Police Chief Supt Kalsom binti Idris said a cleaning company supervisor made the discovery at 9.40pm.

She said a police team was dispatched to the scene upon receiving a complaint.

“A note stating ‘I am sorry and I am asking for help to look for a suitable place for my child. Thank you for your help. Please don’t criticise me. I also do not want this to happen’ was found,” she said.

She said the case is being investigated under Section 318 of the Penal Code. She urged anyone who has information relating to the case to contact Inspector Hatikah binti Ahmad @ Abd Ghani at 016-833 7243.
