TAWAU: Sungai Batu 5 residents have been reminded to be cautious when going about their daily routines along the river following crocodile sightings on Thursday.
Tawau Wildlife Department Officer Primus Lambut said they had been notified of a large crocodile sighting in the area.
“We immediately monitored the area and will install traps once a suitable location has been identified,” he said.
The reptile is thought to be 10 to 12 feet long. Primus also warned locals who use the river to be cautious at all times to avoid unwanted incidents.
A 12-second clip showing a massive crocodile was purportedly recorded by a civilian on a boat at the Sungai Batu 5 river mouth.
The crocodile is claimed to be larger than any ever sighted in the area. The crocodile is seen lounging by the riverbank before going into the water in the video.
