LAHAD DATU: A company director was fined RM10,000 or three months’ jail and penalised three times the tax owed amounting to RM2.6 million by the Magistrate Court, here, for failing to submit income statements.
Wee Yung Heow, 59, was found guilty of the charge before Magistrate Ryan Sagiran Rayner Junior.
He was charged under Section 112(1A) of the Income Tax Act 1967 which carries a fine of between RM1,000 and RM20,000, or maximum imprisonment of six months, or both, and a special penalty of three times the tax owed.
Wee was convicted of failing to submit the income statement (Form C) for the assessment year 2020 and 2021 without reasonable cause to the Inland Revenue Board (IRB).
IRB prosecuting officers Mohd Arif Hermansah told the court that the taxable income of the accused in the two years amounted to RM4.028 million for which the tax due was RM882,000.
Also present were Sabah LHDN operations director Md Fahmi Md Said and Lahad Datu LHDN investigating officer Abdul Haya Langarai.
