More cartels to be exposed
“The existence of cartels can be considered sabotaging our economy and efforts to have a healthy and progressive domestic trade. The biggest impact is on the cost of living because when there is unhealthy competition, certain quarters can manipulate the market by raising prices to get maximum profit among the industry players and the people are the ones suffering,” Armizansaid.
PAPAR: More cartel cases are expected to be exposed following increased monitoring and strengthening the enforcement of the Malaysian Competition Commission (MyCC), an agency under the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN).

Its Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said they would fight cartel practices in three main sectors - food, agriculture and bid rigging.

He said the Federal Government has allocated RM10 million to increase enforcement next year. MyCC, at the moment, only has 17 investigating officers.
