Kota Kinabalu: Lions Clubs International District 308-A2 plans to initiate additional projects to aid more needy people following the success of their fundraising bazaar in October 2023.
“We surpassed our initial target, so now we have additional funds to be distributed for other projects which we aim to carry out by January 2024,” said Organizing Chairman Lim Wuang Ching.
He was speaking at the presentation of RM104,838 for various community projects.
Lim, who is also the Lion Club Papar Host’s Secretary, attributed the success of the recent bazaar to the unwavering support from participating clubs, including Lions Clubs of Asia City, KK Capital, KK Central, KK City, KK Damai, KK Downtown, KK Lintas, KK Star City New Century, Papar Host, Ranau, Keningau Downtown, KK Vantage, Labuan Mandarin, KK Mandarin, KK Sutera and Tanjung Aru.
Also contributing to the bazaar success were Junior Chamber International (JCI) Tanjung Aru, Sabah Fruit Farmers Association, Business Network International, Deus Diving Club and the Next Wrap, as well as Airport in Shanghai 1950.
The proceeds raised from the bazaar would go towards supporting eight projects and providing financial aid to the Lion Ambulance and Sabah Kidney Society, she said, adding that the bazaar showcased the power of collaboration involving 22 organisations.
Lions Clubs’ community service aligns with their motto “We Serve,” emphasising that “where there is a need, there is a Lion.”
The funds were distributed to 10 clubs, including Papar Host represented by Lau Chiong Sing, who received RM10,000 to help the orphanage home caring for the Future Malaysia Bhd; KK Vintage (Alyssa Lim) RM10,000 for underwater coral planting at Tunku Abdul Rahman; KK Downtown (Kennard Koh) RM17,338 for the water gravity project in Kota Belud; Keningau Downtown (Kennedy) RM10,000 for the water gravity project in Keningau and Tanjung Aru (Keavan Kong) RM19,300 for corneal transplants for three to four patients.
Also receiving funds were the Lions Ambulance Service Society represented by Karen Koh Eng Yan (RM10,000); Sabah Kidney Society represented by Chung Kee Hung (RM10,000); KK Sutera (Toon Yang Ru) received RM7,200 for education for stateless children; and KK Asia City (Vincent Voo) RM5,000 to carry out various services and activities, including blood donation and health screening.
Deus Diving Club (Sherrie Pui Sinn Yung) received RM6,000 to carry out underwater clean-up for 12 months (at Tunku Abdul Rahman Park and Sepanggar Island).
